The Go! Team
Thunder, Lightning, Strike!
Rating: 9 of 10
What do the A-Team theme song, Motown soul records and early hip-hop have in common?
Not much.
But that hasn't stopped British sextet The Go! Team from turning those distant elements into a cohesive, compelling, sound. And hell, I haven't had this much fun in years.
With driving horns suggestive of explosions and car chases, the album opens up with "Panther Dash". Perfectly indicative of the more action-oriented side of the album, the track stands out as imaginative and energetic.
Next up is Ladyflash, essentially a Motown jam wrapped in an early 90s hip hop coating. Between these first two tracks, The Go! Team presents a thesis of sound that the rest of the album serves to expound; that the future of great rock is perhaps not to be found in rock at all, but in the movements and genres that rock fans have previously avoided.
The Go! Team, well..... goes!
